stomach remains big after birth

Lynn asked 7 years ago

I had a stray cat giving birth 5 days ago, and her stomach has remained round, and relatively round.
She has what looks like muscular contractions on the upperside of where her stomach starts. When she has these contractions she breaths out quite heavily. When she paces the room, she gets these contractions. She also has them when she is eating. It sounds a bit like she’s trying to cough up a hair ball that never comes out. I have not noticed any discharge any of the days after she gave birth, but at certain moments there is an intense, foul smell coming from her. I do not know whether this is gas or something else.
She is eating, but seems to leave the room and her kittens a little more often now.
As mentioned in an earlier question, one of her kittens was born tail-first, and had to be helped out, as she stopped pushing. The mother cat started bleeding a bit, and as I was removing fluid from the kittens lungs, I did not have time to see whether all placenta’s came out.
Would it be a good idea to get the mother to a vet? Is it possible to get her vaccinated for rabies at the same time? What would the approximate price of an operation and/or antibiotics be (if it came to that?). Should I observere her for some more days first?
Again, thank you for your help. I know few people around here that speak english, and I am located some hours from the nearest vet, making it difficult to just drop by. But I will of course arrange transportation, and do what is needed to keep the mother cat (and kittens) healthy.

as you mentioned before, the queen giving birth difficultly because of malpostion of kitten inside the uterus. It also possible another kitten still inside the uterus or the placenta retained so it also posible the queen had metritis (uterine infection). The infection can occur because of the length of birth process, longer time bigger risk of infection due to contamination.
i thought it would be great if you take to the vet immediately and also inform the vet to take care of mother and kitten while you doing your research. I understand that caring kitten and mother will take a lot of time, so if you can’t do that just talk to the vet. probably the vet will give best solution for your problem. Antibotic might be necessary if there were uterine infection.
Vaccination should be given while mother in healthy condition, so u have to make her healthy first.
the approximate price actually depend on condition, clinic and the doctor. if the queen should take an operation maybe it will cost 1-2 million idr, that exclude blood work and x ray if needed.
